Cato 02:38
Three guineas for a view of the spectacle Unobstructed, and pristine Etched in chalk and unambiguous Nothing like what was advertised And I thought we’d watch this fall Etched in chalk and unambiguous Nothing like what was advertised And I thought we’d watch this fall And after all of this I thought you and I would watch this fall

I see your lips moving But I don’t care for what you have to say I can’t avoid your opinion But who asked you anyway? Why are you always the loudest? Why can’t you stop being a narcissist? Why can’t you stop? I’m sick of your power games And your power trips Too bad the power’s out And your power’s up Why are you always the loudest? Why can’t you stop being a narcissist? Why can’t you stop?

Past 01:50
Distant thoughts Dreamt in greyscale Empty buzzwords Another false start Future preyed on Deadline past Weaponized nostalgia Another false start This distance between us Every day the same This distance between us festers and grows every day

An undercurrent Always there Ominous spectres All I know is that I shouldn’t have come here Millstone around my neck Lights out and braced for a fall Back in this place again The walls are closing in Lights out, lights out Braced for a fall

Peerage 03:15
Vaunted advantage Peerless esteem Your profiled promises And it’s all going to waste Record majority Not what it seemed Fleet footed exit And it’s all going to waste Your lies Turned out to be Promises Matchless acclaim A fleeting glimpse Righteous advance And it’s all going to waste Trapped in a crowd Doomscrolling mess No one can sleep And it’s all going to waste Come back for your flowers Come back for your crown Come back for your moment It won’t have been a waste Your lies Turned out to be Promises

Away 01:41
Now that’s it’s over Do you feel better You won’t grow older What would you have said to him? Is this growing up or just an existential crisis? Is this burning out or just hanging by the last thread? Now that it’s over Now that we’re sober We’ve all grown colder What should she say to him? Is this growing up or just an existential crisis? Is this burning out or just hanging by the last thread?

Wasted 03:16
Hostile thoughts and wasted warnings Bought and sold these wasted hours Wasted thoughts at the point of admission Last call last chance once again It’s only going to get worse Torn up every previous victory Grown up sold out on the cheap Tuned in turned off to this misery Wasted thoughts and wasted hours It’s only going to get worse Wasted thoughts wasted hours

Old Circles 03:59
Now say it again with conviction No lesson to be learned just a curse on your house Defunct tech tuned to dead channels You can believe whatever helps you sleep When in Rome, watch from the hills When in Rome, when Rome is burning Big things coming Bigger things crumbling to ash around us And then everyone clapped You can believe whatever helps you sleep When in Rome, watch from the hills When in Rome, when Rome is burning Still turning a blind eye to this Running away, turning a blind eye to this Rome is burning Rome crumbles down

about

Recorded by the band at The Vault in Tāmaki Makaurau as the building was in the early stages of demolition the self titled debut from Guilt Grip is a literal document of things falling apart. Written at breakneck speed and recorded in increasingly barebones sessions as the studio was dismantled, the album channels the frustration and anger generated by our current epoch. Lyrically the record rails against our racist and transphobic right wing governing parties, the continued attempts to turn back basic human rights, and narcissistic misogynists.

It’s only going to get worse…
